Velvet Fashion Trend Is Coming Back

Many of us associate velvet sets with our grandmothers’ wardrobes. However, in this autumn / winter season, velvet has reappeared on the runways as the predominant fabric. Designers like Anna Sui, Alexander Wang, Zac Posen and Ralph Lauren have all incorporated a bit of the luxurious fabric into their holiday lines. Still, the question remains how to style your velvet pieces to look fashionable and up-to-date while staying away from comments about your grandmother.

First of all, think about the quality. The Substance should be silky and smooth to the touch, NOT coarse or rigid. If the fabric is inexpensive, it will look inexpensive. This negates the whole purpose of buying a velvet piece. Reminder: Velveteen is an imitation of velvet. It is usually made of silk and cotton, has a much coarser hand and a shorter pile. Coarser velvet does not fall on your body as well and is often uncomfortable to wear. Trust your instincts and buy something that feels good and looks good.

Jacket

If you have a jacket, make sure that the room is very structured and linear. Combine it with a ruffled top or a crisp blouse. Contrast the Substances. Keep in mind that velvet is very heavy and thick, so lighter fabrics work wonderfully under your Blazer. If you choose a velvet tank, combine it with a chiffon jacket or a cover to create a contrast.

Pants / Shorts

Make sure that your velvet pants are of high quality to ensure excellent draping and fluidity of the garment. Also be sure to take a nap in areas with high friction.

Areas that frequently rub against each other (such as the inner legs) take a nap and show wear very easily. Opt for a great pair of Shorts with cuffs for a warmer climate. Wear a strand of white pearls and a tank for a classic and cool look.

Color

Jewelry tones are popular this season, so if you decide to buy a new piece, think about the color! Opt for a great item in plum, pink or berry tones. Blueberry counts! Unique this Season is also gray velvet. Choose a steel gray pencil skirt and combine it with a black chiffon blouse! Perfect for the Office!

Accessory

Velvet has deep roots in history as a symbol of nobility. Choose Accessories that have a Vintage feel. A large pearl necklace, Art Deco, chunky jewelry and long necklaces go perfectly with the plush fabric. However, don’t forget to keep the accessories simple! Velvet has its own sparkle and is a statement piece in itself. Combining with too many Accessories can make you look overdone.

Afraid of Velvet?

If you’re not sure if you want to buy a complete velvet piece, go for Accessories to get started! Velvet is popular among shoes and is often made into scarves. These are perfect winter accents for any outfit!
